Edu4ALL training workshop

As part of the #Edu4ALL project, the sixth training workshop was organized and hosted by Int@E UG in Leipzig, Germany, from June 26th to June 30th, 2023. Dr. Riyadh Qashi, the Int@E coordinator, welcomed all the partners and provided a summary of the training objectives and agenda. He also introduced the training tutors to the attendees. Dr. Stefanie Dreiack, the Director of the Coordination Office for Equal Opportunities in Saxony Universities, conducted a session on diversity and participation. She discussed the legal requirements for accessibility and the possible ways to achieve accessibility across all departments and sectors at academic institutions.

 

Mrs. Peggy Reuter-Heinrich and Int@E team conducted several training sessions during the five-days workshop. Mrs. Reuter-Heinrich discussed the proper ways to remove barriers in digital solutions and introduced BITV and WCAG as frameworks and standards for digital accessibility. Hands-on practice was conducted on the fourth and fifth days of the training. Firstly, web accessibility for several websites suggested by the attendees was assessed and evaluated, and ways to improve web accessibility were explained. Secondly, the accessibility of Word documents and generated PDF files was investigated using the “PDF Accessibility Checker 3” software.

 

At the end of the training, Dr. Riyadh Qashi, the Int@E coordinator, presented and handed an English translation of Mrs. Peggy Reuter-Heinrich’s book titled “Digital Accessibility for All!” Dr. Qashi invited the Vice President of the University of Jordan, President of the Aqaba Campus, Prof. Ghaleb Abbasi, to distribute certificates to the attendees.
